With an upcoming major project in Port Kembla, we are now seeking a capable and motivated Project Engineer to join our team — with the opportunity to transition into FIFO 2/1 project work across Liberty Industrial’s national project portfolio once the Port Kembla project is completed.
We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer to support our Port Kembla operations in a local Drive-In Drive-Out (DIDO) capacity. This role is ideal for someone who wants hands-on project involvement, thrives in a dynamic industrial environment, and is looking to build a long-term engineering career with future FIFO opportunities.
You will play a central role in planning, coordinating, and delivering project works to the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Coordination
• Assist with project plans, schedules and resourcing
• Work with the Project Manager to achieve scope, budget and program outcomes
• Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers and internal delivery teams
Technical Engineering Support
• Provide engineering input into methodologies, sequencing and temporary works
• Review drawings, specifications and technical documents
• Prepare engineering calculations, work packs and ITPs
Cost & Commercial Management
• Track project costs, budgets and forecasts
• Assist with variations, progress claims and procurement
• Support commercial reporting requirements
Quality & Compliance
• Ensure works meet technical specifications and client expectations
• Conduct inspections, audits and quality checks
• Maintain accurate documentation and as-built records
Health, Safety & Environment
• Participate in risk assessments, SWMS and JHAs
• Promote strong HSEQ culture and safe work practices
• Support incident investigations and improvement initiatives
Stakeholder & Team Engagement
• Liaise with clients, consultants and regulatory bodies
• Support and mentor junior engineers and supervisors
• Build strong working relationships with project teams and subcontractors
Reporting & Progress Tracking
• Provide updates on progress, risks and performance
• Maintain dashboards, schedules and reporting tools
• Identify emerging risks early and support mitigation planning
Required Qualifications & Experience
• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
• Experience in civil, industrial, demolition or remediation projects
• Strong planning and coordination capability
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Proficiency with project management and reporting systems
• Current driver’s licence
• Previous DIDO or site-based experience is desirable
