At Liberty Industrial, this role is suited to a Senior Project Engineer who understands how work is delivered on site and can translate that into structured, efficient project execution.

This position will take ownership of key scopes, working through technical detail, planning, and sequencing to ensure delivery outcomes are achieved safely, efficiently, and in line with client expectations.

Job Description

The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

  • Take full ownership of assigned scopes from planning through to execution
  • Develop and refine work methodologies, sequencing, and production plans
  • Identify delivery risks early and implement practical mitigation strategies
  • Work closely with site teams to ensure plans are realistic and achievable
  • Drive productivity improvements through simplification of processes
  • Monitor progress, costs, and performance against program
  • Coordinate with internal teams (Operations, HSEQ, Commercial)
  • Maintain strong client interface and ensure expectations are met

Requirements

Technical & Practical Experience

  • Demonstrated experience as a Senior Project Engineer within:
    • Heavy industrial, demolition, remediation, civil, or construction environments
  • Strong site-based experience with a clear understanding of:
    • How works are physically executed
    • Plant and equipment interfaces
    • Constraints impacting safety, productivity and sequencing
  • Proven ability to manage complex scopes with multiple work fronts
  • Experience interpreting drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
  • Exposure to high-risk activities and controlled work environments
  • Ensure documentation is accurate, complete, constructible, and aligned with site execution

Engineering & Qualifications

  • Engineering qualification aligned to practical delivery:
    • Diploma / Advanced Diploma / Degree (Mechanical preferred, Civil considered)
  • Strong preference for hands-on, practical engineering background
  • Ability to apply engineering principles in a real-world, site-driven context

Planning & Production Capability

  • Strong understanding of:
    • Production logic and activity sequencing
    • Critical path and program impacts
    • Resource planning and productivity drivers
  • Experience developing:
    • Work packs and methodologies
    • Short-term and long-term lookahead plans
  • Ability to simplify complex plans into clear, executable steps
  • Own short‑term and look‑ahead planning quality across site
  • Ensure work sequencing, logic, and constraints are clearly understood and achievable
  • Actively identify planning gaps, clashes, or unrealistic assumptions before they impact delivery

Problem Solving & Critical Thinking

  • Ability to challenge assumptions and existing methodologies
  • Strong analytical capability to identify root causes of issues
  • Demonstrated experience delivering practical, fit-for-purpose solutions
  • Confidence to make decisions in fast-paced project environments

Commercial & Delivery Focus

  • Understanding of cost drivers and project budgets
  • Ability to monitor and manage scope performance
  • Experience supporting procurement and subcontractor coordination
  • Strong focus on delivering outcomes aligned to program and client expectations

Communication & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Proven ability to work effectively and confidently with:
  • Supervisors, engineers, HSEQ and Site teams
  • Internal stakeholders
  • Clients and external parties
  • Must demonstrate clear, direct, and confident communication at all times
  • Able to provide concise, structured instructions that can be easily understood and followed on site
  • Ensure deliverables meet client expectations before submission
  • Comfortable leading conversations and taking control where required, particularly in high-pressure or time-critical situations
  • Able to challenge direction or assumptions professionally to ensure the best outcome is achieved
  • Communicates issues early, clearly, and with proposed solutions
  • Strong ability to translate technical detail into practical, site-ready direction, ensuring there is no ambiguity in execution
  • Builds credibility through communication style, ensuring alignment across teams and driving action rather than discussion
